Cowgirl Volleyball: Wrapping up the 2018 Season

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 19, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team wrapped up its 2018 campaign with a 20-11 overall record along with a 12-6 conference record to finish third in the Mountain West. We're wrapping up the 2018 campaign with all of the biggest notes and stats from the season.
 
2018 Team Notes
• The Cowgirls' 20 wins in 2018 marked the program's fourth 20-win season in the Chad Callihan era and the first since 2015.
• Wyoming hosted the first postseason volleyball match in program history when the Cowgirls matched up with Utah Valley in the first round of the NIVC.
• With their second-straight selection to the NIVC, the Cowgirls have made back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time since 1990.
• The Cowgirls finished tops in the MW in blocks per set (2.86) and total blocks (340.5). Those totals ranked seventh and eighth in the nation, respectively.
• Wyoming recorded 579 block assists as a team in 2018. That total ranks third in school history.
• The Cowgirls recorded 340.5 total blocks in 2018. That total ranks fifth in program history.
• The Pokes' season hitting percentage of .243 ranked second in the MW and 46th nationally. Wyoming held opponents to a .162 hitting percentage, which ranked second in the MW and 17th nationally.
• The Cowgirls' hitting percentage of .243 is tied for fourth in school history, and stands as the best mark for a Cowgirl team since 2014.
• Wyoming finished 14-2 overall at home. Their .875 home winning percentage ranked 38th in the country.

2018 Individual Notes
Reed Copeland finished the season with 195 blocks on the year, which ranks third in program history, and stands as the most since Erin Kirby blocked 225 in 2013.
• Copeland also finished her senior campaign with a .336 hitting percentage in 2018. That mark ranks eighth in school history.
• Junior Libero Madi Fields finished with 488 digs, which ranks fourth on the single-season program list and stands as the most since Allison Waldvogel's 520 in 2015.
• Fields recorded nine matches with 20 or more digs.
• Three Cowgirls finished the season with 115 or more blocks in Reed Copeland (195), Jackie McBride (131) and Tara Traphagan (116). Only six other schools accomplished that feat: Stanford, Utah Valley, Cleveland State, Washington State, UCF and Illinois.
• Copeland's 195 blocks are tied for 18th in the NCAA's 25-point scoring era, and her 1.64 blocks per set are tied for 15th.
• Five Cowgirls recorded 230 or more kills, led by senior Emily Lewis with 279.

Callihan Notes
• With 122 wins, head coach Chad Callihan sits only two wins from tying former Cowgirl coach Mike English as the winningest coach in program history.
• With a .649 overall winning percentage during his tenure in Laramie, Callihan owns the best such mark in school history.
• Callihan owns a .644 winning percentage in MW play, which stands as the best such percentage in school history. His 71 MW wins are also the most by a Cowgirl head coach.
• In his six seasons at Wyoming, Callihan has recorded four 20-win seasons. The program has recorded 11 20-win seasons in its history.

Copeland Career Notes
Reed Copeland finishes her career in the top-10 of a number of different stat categories in the school record book.
• Copeland finishes tied for fifth in school history in career hitting percentage, tied with Kristina Dzelme (1993-96) at .290.
• The Federal Way, Wash., native ranks second in school history in total blocks with 658. The only Cowgirl ahead of her is Erin Kirby, who racked up 714 in her career.
• Copeland ranks seventh in Cowgirl history for most sets played in a career with 445.
• In 2018, Copeland set new career highs in kills (240), attacks (515), blocks (195) and points (349.0).
• She will finish her career with 793 kills, 658 blocks (87 solo) and 1,165.5 points.
• Copeland boasts career single-game highs of 19 kills (San Diego State, 2016), and 13 blocks (Air Force, 2018).
 
Aafedt Career Notes
• Senior setter Cori Aafedt finishes her career with 1,315 assists and 458 digs.
• Aafedt reached career highs in 2018 in sets played (119), kills (7), assists (730), aces (17), digs (198) and points (26.0).
• The Platteville, Colo., native boasts single-game career highs of 41 assists (Iowa, 2018) and 17 digs (Utah, 2015).
 
Lewis Career Notes
• Senior outside hitter Emily Lewis wraps up her career with 871 kills on a .190 hitting percentage, along with 271 digs, 27 service aces, 201 blocks and 1,003.5 points.
• Lewis reached career highs in 2018 in sets played (114), hitting percentage (.231), aces (13), digs (104) and blocks (69).
• The Olathe, Kan., native boasts career single game highs of 21 kills (Syracuse, 2018), four aces (Portland, 2017) and seven blocks (Tennessee Tech, 2016).
