LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 6, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team closes out its 2018 road schedule this weekend as it travels to take on Boise State and Utah State. The Cowgirls will face the Broncos on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before a Saturday contest against the Aggies on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
"It will be a good challenge for us," head coach
Chad Callihan said. "Boise State is going to be a heck of a match. I'm sure they're going to want some redemption after their match here, and probably the same with Utah State—and I've always thought that is a pretty tough place to play. They've been playing teams pretty tough at home this year, so it is going to be a pretty good challenge for our crew.
Wyoming is coming off a win over Air Force in its last time out, completing the season sweep over the Falcons and marking the eighth-straight win in the series.
Junior
Halie McArdle led the Cowgirls with a career-high 22 kills on a .269 hitting percentage. Senior
Emily Lewis was close behind with 19 kills—just two off of her career best—with a .457 hitting percentage. Setter
Cori Aafedt racked up 34 assists along with a kill and eight digs. Defensively,
Reed Copeland recorded eight total blocks, contributing on all but one of the team's nine.
Madi Fields posted 15 digs along with five assists and a service ace.
Boise State heads into the weekend at 16-9 and 8-6 in MW play. The Broncos picked up a pair of matches last weekend on the road, knocking off Fresno State, 3-2, in Fresno before defeating San Diego State in four sets in San Diego.
Wyoming is 14-11 all-time against Boise State and has won the last three meetings, sweeping Boise State in 2017 and defeating them in four sets at home earlier this season.
Utah State enters this Thursday's match at 5-20 overall and 3-11 in conference play following a couple of consecutive losses to Fresno State and San Diego State.
Wyoming has won 20 of the 35 contests in the all-time series against Utah State. The Cowgirls have won seven of the last eight as well, with Wyoming winning the last matchup, 3-0, in Laramie earlier this season.
Both matches this week are set to be streamed live online on the MW Digital Network.
