LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 17, 2018) –  The Cowboys and Cowgirls swimmers broke four more pool records during the final session of the Corbett Open on Saturday morning, while the divers closed out the weekend at the Mizzou Invite. Over all, both teams set 12 new pool records through three days of competition.

"The coaches and the student-athletes all learned a lot about racing over the past three days," head coach Dave Denniston said. "I think we got some good things to work on moving forward and beyond.  I think an event like this has built a lot of confidence in our swimmers."

The morning got off to a fast start as a pool record was broken in the first event of the day. Junior Daniela Luna Rocha would record a time of 17:17.07 to beat the record that she set last year. Two events later, senior Samantha Burke would break another record for the Cowgirls as she would record a time of 1:59.08 in the 200-yard backstroke to break the that mark set in 2014.

Senior Isobel Ryan would be the next Cowgirl to break a record which would be her second over the three days. Ryan eclipsed the pool record in the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall in 50.12 to cap off of her impressive performance.

On the men's side, junior Sean Calkins swam a season-best time of 1:53.40 in the 200-yard backstroke, while senior Liam Holt touched the wall in a season best time of 2:02.49. The Cowboys would finish the Corbett Open on a high note as they would break a pool record in the final event of the day. The team of PJ Musser, James Bouda, Liam Metzsch and David Murphy would put together very strong performance in the 400 freestyle relay. Murphy would swim the final leg for the Cowboys and he would touch the wall at 3:01.00 to break a record that was set in 1984.

At the Mizzou Invite, Wyoming finished the weekend by competing in the platform event. Senior Ryan Russi would move past the prelims with a score of 276.90 earning him a fifth-place finish and a spot in the finals. While freshman Brendan Byrnes scored a 182.95 to earn a 14th place finish. Russi would score a 285.75 over five dives to secure a seventh-place finish in the finals. For the Cowgirls, senior CeeJay Harris scored a 211.05 in the prelims to place seventh advancing her to the finals. She scored 220.85 in the finals of the platform event earning her a sixth-place finish. Fellow senior Peyton GrandPre would follow taking a 16th place finish with a score of 185.40.

"Ryan (Russi) really had a solid weekend for us," head diving coach Kyle Bogner said. "He came back with solid performances in every final and found a way to improve each time. I also felt CeeJay (Harris) had a huge personal best on platform today."
