LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 16, 2018) – The Cowgirl and Cowboy seniors were honored Friday night as the women set five new Corbett Pool records and the men added one pool record as the second day of the Corbett Open wrapped. The divers also continued its week at the Mizzou Invite.

"It seemed like every time we hit the water they were swimming season bests, lifetime bests, or pool bests and there was just a lot of really fast racing today and that was fun." head coach Dave Denniston said. "It really showed in the end with our 800 free relays both shattering the pool records. It's just a fast team across the board right now."

Freshman Erin Eccleston was the first to break a pool record on Friday night. She recorded a time of 4:29.28 in the 400-yard individual medley which was over two seconds faster than the previous mark. Two events later another record would fall as sophomore Hannah Mclean-Leonard swam the 100-yard butterfly touching the wall at 54.38 which bested the previous pool record of 54.94 that she set last year.

The Cowgirls continued to be solid in the pool with freshman Lainee Jones who recorded a new Corbett Pool mark in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.53, it would be the first of the two pool records that she would be a part of. The last individual to break a pool record on the night was senior Isobel Ryan. She would break her own pool record from a year ago in the 100 backstroke as she finished with a time of 53.07.

On the men's side, junior Seth Borgert had an impressive showing in the 400-yard IM touching the wall in 4:00.70, which was his best time in the event this season. In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Ryan Netzel had a season-best time of 1:41.34, while sophomore Mitchell Hovis had an impressive time of 55.77 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the last two events of the night, two more records would tumble. The Cowgirls broke a 10-year old record in the 800-yard freestyle. The team of Shannon Chelsvig, Samantha Burke, Katelyn Blattner and Jones clocked a time of 7:35.30 crushing the old record of 7:46.11. The Cowboys would get in on the action as they would break a record that was set in 1984. The team of Austin Crump, Jacob Harlan, Borgert, and Netzel would set a new pool record in the finishing with a time of 6:44.08, breaking the time of 6:45.63. The Cowboys and Cowgirls have now combined for eight new pool records through two days of swimming in the Corbett Open.

The diving team was back in action for day two of the Missouri Invite. On the men's side, the duo of Brendan Byrnes and Ryan Russi would find success on the 3-meter. Russi would reach the finals for the second straight day. He recorded a season-high score of 329.75 which would earn him a fourth place finish in the finals. Byrnes would qualify for the consolation finals for the second event in a row and would post a mark of 238.45 to earn 15th overall.

Senior Peyton GrandPre was the highest scoring diver for the Cowgirls and totaled a score of 249.70 to place 13th in the prelims and third in the B-Final with a mark of 261.20. McKenna Houlihan would be right behind GrandPre finishing the prelims in 24th with a score of 215.80.

Both swimming and diving teams will wrap up competition tomorrow. The Corbett Open will begin at 9 a.m. MT, while the divers will be in action on the platform with the women at 9:30 a.m. and the men to follow at 12:30 p.m.
