LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 13, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team closes out its 2018 conference schedule this weekend as it hosts New Mexico and UNLV at the UniWyo Sports Complex.
The Cowgirls will welcome the Lobos to Laramie on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MT, before returning to take on the Rebels on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Prior to Saturday's matchup with UNLV, the Wyoming volleyball team will be honoring its three seniors who will be playing their final home match:
Cori Aafedt,
Reed Copeland and
Emily Lewis.
Aafedt leads the Cowgirls in assists this season with 644, averaging 6.08 per set. Earlier this season, she broke the 1,000 career assist mark and currently has 1,145. The Platteville, Colo., native has started all but three games for the Cowgirls so far this season.
Copeland currently owns 633 career blocks, which rank second in program history. Her 170 this season rank second in the nation and seventh in school history for blocks in a single season. She also has the team lead in hitting percentage with .343 along with 216 kills on the year.
Lewis has been solid for the Cowgirls throughout her four years in Laramie, recording 835 total kills along with 195 total blocks and 259 digs. This season, she ranks second on the team in kills with 243 on a 2.41 kills per set average.
The Cowgirls are coming off an impressive sweep over Utah State to close out the team's final road trip of the conference season. The Cowgirls were led by
Tara Traphagan, who racked up 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage. As a team, Wyoming hit a .326 percentage—the team's highest in a road match this season. Setters Aafedt and
Marissa Hines both recorded 17 assists in the win as well.
Defensively, Wyoming recorded 10 total blocks, led by
Reed Copeland with eight and
Faith Waitsman with seven. Libero
Jaiden Chase led in digs with 13 to pace the Cowgirls' 42 as a team.
