LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 13, 2018) – The Wyoming Cowboy and Cowgirl swim teams are set to host the Corbett Open beginning on Thursday at Corbett Pool. Meanwhile, the Cowboy and Cowgirl diving teams will be heading to Columbia, Mo., to compete in the Mizzou Invite.

The Cowgirl swimming team is coming off of two victories over the weekend after defeating Washington State and the University of Idaho in consecutive days. The Cowgirls won on Friday against the Cougars 140-122 in Pullman, Wash., then defeated the Vandals 182.5-117.5 in Moscow, Idaho. Sophomore Hannah Mclean-Leonard won four events throughout the two duals and will look to keep her momentum going this weekend at the Corbett Invite.

"I think the women had a really solid weekend and we are having a really solid season across the board," head coach Dave Denniston said. "Everyone is contributing. Hannah (Mclean-Leonard) had some of her best times along with Erin (Eccleston) in the 200 butterfly and some of the younger athletes having some good opportunities. Our upperclassmen are really showing their leadership as well. Isobel (Ryan) went 51 in the 100 yard freestyle, which she hasn't done in season."

The Cowboys have not competed in an event since it hosted Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 2. In that meet, the Cowboys looked strong in a 163-96 victory over the visiting Orediggers. The men are looking to keep momentum going after winning 11 of the 14 events in the dual while sweeping the top three spots in five different events. Two Cowboys to watch after two victories each in the dual will be David Murphy, who won the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, and Ryan Netzel who won the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

"We are looking for some fast racing. Everyone loves to try and beat the pool records, so it means a lot for them to try and accomplish that. We will give them an opportunity to go race in anything they want. Usually as coaches we put them in races in order to earn a victory, but they get to race in what they like to swim."

On the diving board, the Cowboys have not performed in a competitive meet since Oct. 27 against the University of Denver. In that meet, UW swept the 1-meter board posting the top three scores. The Cowboys also claimed the top two spots in the 3-meter board, with Ryan Russi winning both events.

The Cowgirl diving team did not compete against Washington State on Friday, but did compete against the University of Idaho on Saturday. Freshman McKenna Houlihan got second in both diving events with a score of 263.77 in the 3-meter and a season best score of 268.95 in the 1-meter.

The Corbett Open will begin at 4:00 p.m. MT on Thursday and Friday and conclude on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. MT each day at Mizzou Invite will begin at 10:00 a.m. with no set time for when diving will compete.
