MOSCOW, Idaho. (Nov. 10, 2018) – Wyoming women's swimming and diving closed out the weekend with a dominate 182.5-117.5 win over the Idaho Vandals on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls completed an undefeated weekend on the road after coming away with a victory last night against Washington State.
"The ladies did a really great job today," assistant swimming coach
Jim Bossert said. "It was a great second day with back to back days of swimming. Andrea (Niemann) won the 200-yard breast with a solid time. Hannah (Mclean-Leonard) continues to swim fast every time she hits the water and Catriona (Clarke) has been good in every event that we asked her to compete in and had a great win in the 200-yard individual medley. Overall, we were pleased with the performances and it sets up well for the Corbett Invite next week."
Wyoming finished with victories in 11 of 16 events against Idaho. In the 100-yard backstroke, senior
Isobel Ryan finished first in a time 56.59. Freshman
Emily Sizemore placed second with a time of 57.51 while fellow freshman
Allana Clarke was third with a time of 59.06. Senior
Connor Tarver placed first with a time of 2:04.72 in the 200-yard backstroke followed by fellow senior
Marcela Gramcko with a time of 2:06.19 and freshman
Catriona Clarke touching the wall in 2:08.02.
Senior
Hannah Mclean-Leonard kept it going for the Cowgirls in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.77 to win her second race of the day. Senior
Samantha Burke touched the wall in 57.34 and placing third was
Allana Clarke with a time of 57.52. In the 200-yard IM,
Catriona Clarke took first place with a 2:09.70 finish and freshman
Phoebe Browne followed in second with a time of 2:11.56. Sophomore
Tanja Milanovic capped off the third sweep of the day for the Cowgirls by finishing in 2:12.72 to take third.
Other highlights included freshman
Erin Eccleston with a season best time of 10:30.52 in the 1000-yard freestyle and freshman
Andrea Niemann with a time of in 2:22.97 in the 200-yard breaststroke. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Clarke, Riley Pilon, Mclean-Leonard and Ryan touched the wall in a time of 1:47.00, while the team of
Sani Carsrud, Mclean-Leonard, Eccleston and
Lainee Jones finished first in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:31.99.
On the diving board,
McKenna Houlihan came away with two second place performances with scores of 263.77 in the 3-meter and a season-best 268.95 on the 1-meter. Junior
Abigail Zoromski recorded a score of 231.67 in the 3-meter and and 220.95 in the 1-meter.
Both teams will return to the action this as it hosts the Corbett Invite, Thursday-Saturday. The divers will be headed to the Missouri Invite next week as well.
