Wyoming Soccer Returns Home for Two Matches

Games are scheduled for Friday and Sunday

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 3, 2018) The Cowgirl soccer team will return home on Friday after a three week hiatus. Wyoming welcomes Colorado College followed by a match-up against Air Force on Sunday. Friday's match is set for 3 p.m. MT while Sunday will begin at 12:30 p.m. On Sunday, there will also be a tumbler giveaway for the first 550 fans in attendance.
               
Wyoming enters the week with a 7-3-2 record and 2-2 in the MW. They split the weekend with a 1-0 double-overtime win over Utah State followed up by 2-1 loss against the league leading Boise State Broncos. 
 
Seniors Annika Clayton and Brittney Stark lead the way with three goals, while junior Summer Taube and freshmen Sekoya Romero and Caitlin Pickett have two goals. Clayton has a team high 30 shots, which ranks tenth in the MW. In conference games, Stark is sixth with 12 (2.00 spg). Taube is tied for third in points. 
 
The Cowgirl offense ranks third in shots with 13.83 per game and fourth in goals and goals per game. UW takes fewer shots that UNLV and Boise State who average 15.85 and 15.33 shots per game, respectively. They have a 44.0 shots on goal percentage and have taken 44 corner kicks compared to 40 by their opponents.
 
Junior Cristina Salazar has played all 12 games in net, has 33 saves and a 1.13 goals against average. She is also eighth in the league with three shutouts. Freshman Hannah Lee has played in seven games and has 19 saves and two shutouts. Senior defender Taylor Burton has logged 1128 minutes of the 1143 played by the Cowgirls including all 90 seven times, 93 once and 110 minutes three times. 
 
"After four hard fought road matches to open MWC play we are excited to get back to our home field this coming weekend," head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "Within the first two weekends one big positive is that we were able to take away two wins as we head into our third weekend of conference games.  It will be important for our team to continue to prepare well for the upcoming matches, and we are looking to take away two good results at home.  In the end, this team has shown a strong work ethic and determination that will hopefully carry us through the middle portion of our conference schedule."

Colorado College is 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West action this season. Last time out, they defeated Nevada, 1-0, in Colorado Springs. They were picked to finish tenth in the coaches poll.
 
The Tigers are led by senior Lauren Milliet who has a team high four goals and assists plus 42 shots on the year. Sophomore Tayla Wheeler has three goals and two game winners. Sophomore Jade Odom has played in all ten games in goal and has a 0.79 goals against average which is second in the league. CC returns ten starters and 17 letterwinners to a team that went 6-9-4 overall and 3-6-2 in the league a season ago. 
 
This will be the 13th meeting between the two schools. Colorado College leads the series 9-3-0, but the Cowgirls have won the last two in a row. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 22, 2017. Wyoming won the contest 1-0 in Colorado Springs. The Cowgirls 2-4-0 at home against the Tigers and 1-4-0 on the road.

Air Force comes in to Laramie with a 1-4-5 overall mark and 0-2-2 in league action. Last time out, they tied with UNLV 0-0 after two overtimes. The Falcons were picked ninth right behind the Cowgirls in the MW Coaches poll.
 
Emma Nelson leads the Falcons with two goals and four points plus 11 shots. Her teammate Katilyn Cook leads the way with 22 shots. Goalkeeper Jennifer Hiddink has been in goal for ten games and has a 1.01 goals against average. As a team, Air Force is averaging 10.7 shots per game.  
 
This will be the 23rd game between the two schools. UW leads the series 13-8-1. The last time the two squads met was Sept. 24, 2017 with Air Force coming out on top 1-0 overtime. Wyoming is 7-3-1 at home against the Falcons.
