LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 18, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team snapped its four-match win streak on Thursday night, dropping a tough match at UNLV, 3-1.
Cowgirl seniors
Reed Copeland and
Emily Lewis led the Wyoming offense with double-digit kills, as Copeland led the team with 12 on a .391 hitting percentage while Lewis recorded 11.
Cori Aafedt paced the team in assists with 20.
Defensively, Copeland added four blocks to lead the team, while junior
Halie McArdle recorded a career high in digs with 21, followed by libero
Madi Fields who was also in double digits with 15.
The two teams traded convincing set victories in the first and second, with the Rebels taking the first, 25-18, while the Pokes responded with a 25-20 win in the second. Wyoming never trailed in the second, posting a .393 hitting percentage in the frame after using a 4-0 run early in the period to pick up a 9-5 lead the team would not relinquish.
The teams went back and forth in the third, but with the Pokes trailing, 15-14, midway through the set, Wyoming rattled off a 7-2 run to take a 21-17 lead late; however, UNLV would not go away quietly and ran off six unanswered points to take a 23-21 lead.
The Cowgirls and Rebels traded blows late, and after the Cowgirls fought off a pair of set points to tie it up at 24-all, it was UNLV that scored the final two points in the period to take the 26-24 set win.
The Rebels were able to close out the Cowgirls in the fourth, coming up with the 25-19 win to clinch the match.
The Cowgirls will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on New Mexico at noon.
