GOLDEN, Colo. – Wyoming Swimming and Diving men's and women's teams each took down Colorado School of Mines on Saturday afternoon. The Cowboys defeated the Orediggers by a score of 173.5-83.5, while the Cowgirls came away with a 168.5-85.5 dual victory.
The Cowgirls won 11 of the 14 women's events, including three seniors with multiple race wins.
Rachel McKivigan posted the top time in the 200 freestyle of 1:57.53, and later in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 59.57.
Kelly Sheldon earned her first win of the day in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.12, narrowly beating out teammate
Connor Tarver who placed second with a time of 59.63. Sheldon later won the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 5:09.09, three and a half seconds faster than the rest of the field.
Susanna Schumann claimed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.86, two seconds faster than the second-place swimmer, and then repeated in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.29
The Cowboys were even more impressive, winning the first 12 races of the day on the men's side. Senior

Jack Herron led the way with two victories, each. Sheaffer posted the fastest time in the 100 backstroke of 52.51, and later won the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.52. Herron's first win of the day came in the 200 butterfly, beating the field by more than four seconds with a mark of 1:53.34. Herron later won the 500 freestyle, clocking a 4:42.52, this time beating the field by more than five seconds.
Both men's and women's squads placed first in the 200 medley relay. The Cowgirls recorded a mark of 1:46.25 with a team of junior
Isobel Ryan, Schumann, junior
Samantha Burke, and Sheldon. Ryan also won the 100 freestyle, while Burke placed first in the 50 freestyle. The Cowboys clocked the fastest time with a 1:34.65, the team consisting of sophomore
Sean Calkins, junior
David Murphy, sophomore
Jack Scafuri and junior
Liam Metzsch. Murphy also won the 100 breaststroke, while Metzsch placed first in the 50 freestyle.
The Cowgirls will be back in action in two weeks, with a two-day dual against Mountain West opponent Boise State on Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20. Both teams will then hit the pool the following weekend to face UNLV on Friday, Jan. 26, before clashing with both UNLV and Grand Canyon on Saturday, Jan. 27.
