TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 21, 2018) – The Wyoming women's tennis team wrapped up its third and final day of action on Sunday at the Hurricane Invite in Tulsa.
"We played some tough tennis today, which was a great way to end this weekend," head coach
Dean Clower said. "I was proud of how we competed as a team. We have a quick turnaround and need to be ready for Oklahoma State."
Doubles action started off the morning and it was a good start for the Cowgirls. The team of senior
Magdalena Stencel and sophomore
Milka Genkova defeated Sonia Chen and Karla De La Luz Montalvo, 6-0, followed by a 6-1 win by juniors
Elisa Koonik and
Tessa van Der Ploeg over Claudia Oravcova and Andrea Perez-Lopez.
Wyoming kept the momentum going in singles action as well by winning four of the five matches played. Stencel defeated Nadja Manjon, 6-2, 6-0, while van Der Ploeg won in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Genkova won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Koonik who needed three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, over De La Luz Montalvo. Freshman
Myiah Scott dropped a 6-1, 6-1 contest against Paulina Cota.
The Cowgirls will begin dual play tomorrow against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in Stillwater and the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Tuesday in Edmond. Monday's match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. MT while Tuesday's match is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wyoming will open up its home schedule next Sunday against the Northern Colorado Bears.
