TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 20, 2018) – One doubles team and three individuals came away with victories as the Wyoming tennis team continued play at the Hurricane Invite on Saturday morning.
"It was fun to see the ladies get out and compete today," head coach
Dean Clower said. "Tessa (van Der Ploeg) is really playing our style of tennis and it was fun to watch Elisa (Koonik) as well. The first weekend is always tough to get the rust off and it looks like we are doing that."
In singles action, junior
Tessa van Der Ploeg won in straight sets over Molly Worden, 6-3, 6-0, followed by fellow junior
Elisa Koonik with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Betka Gombarova. Senior
Magdalena Stencel dropped a tough three setter, 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, against Tatjana Stoll. Sophomore
Milka Genkova defeated Chantal Nosievici, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, while freshman
Myiah Scott lost to Tomaic, 6-3, 6-2.
Koonik and van Der Ploeg defeated Stoll and Worden, 6-4, while Genkova and Stencel lost to Karla Tomaic and Jovic, 7-6.
The Cowgirls will close out the tournament tomorrow morning in Tulsa before opening dual play against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Monday in Stillwater and the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Tuesday in Edmond.
