TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 19, 2018) – It was a tough outing on Friday for the Wyoming tennis team as it opened up the spring season at the Hurricane Invite.
Senior
Magdalena Stencel lost her opening match, 6-2, 6-1, against Ksenia Laskutova, while junior
Tessa van Der Ploeg fell to Martha Matoula in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Sophomore
Ana Tkachenko dropped her match against Tamara Kupkova, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 followed by junior
Elisa Koonik who won the first set 6-2, against Vera Ploner, but lost the next two, 6-1, 6-2, to fall in the match. The final two Cowgirls in action where sophomore
Milka Genkova and
Myiah Scott. Genkova came up short, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, against Shura Poppe, while Scott was defeated by Alexandrina Chinikova, 6-1, 6-0.
All three doubles teams came up short in its matches. Koonik and van Der Ploeg dropped a 6-4 match against Laskutova and Matoula. The team of Stencel and Genkova lost a close one 7-5 against Martina Okalova and Ploner, while Tkachenko and Scott dropped the match, 6-3, to Kupkova and Shura Poppe.
The Cowgirls return to action in both singles and doubles play tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. MT.
