Gabrielle Gibson and sophomore
Erin Sargent both remain among the top-ten following the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. The Cowgirls are in fifth in the 12-team field following Saturday's 621 (+45). UW posted rounds of 312 (+24) and 309 (+21) to open the tournament, and are two shots off third place heading into Sunday's final round.
"The team fought hard during the long and hot day but our results were mixed individually," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "Gabrielle (Gibson) and Erin (Sargent) were solid, patient and confident all day. We have a chance to finish well if we manage the course to our strengths tomorrow."
Following her first-round 73 (+1), Gibson carded a 76 (+4) to tie for third with a pair of golfers at 149 (+5). The Temecula, Calif., native is in contention after recording five birdies on Saturday and will be looking for the fourth top-five finish of her career with tomorrow's final round left to play.
Sargent saved her best round of the day for the afternoon using back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes to come away with a 73 (+1) in the second round. Along with her first-round mark of 79 (+7), the Longmont, Colo., native is sitting tied for tenth with a two-round total 152 (+8).
Junior
Sarah Hankins holds a share of 29th place after the first two rounds. Hankins shot an 81 (+9) on Saturday morning before coming alive and firing a 78 (+6) to close out the day with a total 159 (+15).
Megan Knadler is sitting tied for 41st with Sunday's final round remaining. The junior from Phoenix carded an 82 (+10) to go along with a 79 (+7) during the morning round on Saturday.
Redshirt freshman
Caitlyn Skavdahl shot an 80 (+8) during the first round and followed with an 83 (+11) on Saturday afternoon. Skavdahl's 163 (+19) is just ahead of
Kaylee Knadler's 165 (+21) heading into Sunday.
Kaylee Knadler, who recorded an 85 (+13) to begin the tournament, shot an 80 (+8) to close out the first day in Palm Desert.
To round out the Cowgirls and playing as an individual, freshman
Jordan Remley opened the weekend with an 85 (+13) before an 88 (+16) on Saturday afternoon. She currently owns a share of 66th after two rounds.
The final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. MT.
