LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 30, 2017) -- Head coach
Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming women's basketball team have completed their preseason workouts and are set to begin regular-season practices for the 2017-18 season. The Cowgirls' first practice is slated for Monday afternoon and will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the remainder of the week.
""The team had a great preseason in the weight room as well as individual workouts on the court," Legerski said. "We are excited about the start of practice with the goal of building on last season's success. The schedule is as difficult as we have faced and will test this group early."
Wyoming returns four starters and 12 letterwinners from last season's squad that went 22-10 overall and 13-5 in the Mountain West. In all, the squad consists of four seniors, six juniors and four sophomores.
Entering his 15
th season at the helm, Legerski has an overall record of 267-166 while he holds a 133-93 mark in league play. Three individuals were selected for postseason honors. Senior
Liv Roberts was selected to the All-Conference and All-Defensive teams while junior
Marta Gomez was named Sixth Player of the Year and newcomer
Taylor Rusk earned MW All-Freshman Team honors.
Several individuals will be looked upon to contribute during the 2017-18 campaign, including the four returning starters. Roberts returns after averaging a team high 15.6 points and 7.8 boards followed by fellow senior
Natalie Baker with 9.7 points and 5.7 boards. Junior
Bailee Cotton played in all 32 contests and chipped in 5.9 and 4.8 rebounds while newcomer
Clara Tapia averaged a team-high 4.5 assists along with 6.2 points. Gomez and Rusk each added 8.8 points and 6.3 points respectively off the bench.

Tijana Raca and
Rachelle Tucker plus sophomores
Selale Kepenc,
Coreen Labish. Wyoming also welcomes newcomers to the team.
Sladjana Rakovic and
Elisa Pilli joined the program in the fall.
Wyoming will open up the regular season with four homes games out of its first five. UW will tip things off against Chadron State, on Friday, Nov. 3, followed up by match-ups against Adams State, Sat., Nov. 11 and Montana, Monday, Nov. 13. Out on the road for the first time will be Thursday, Nov. 16 against the Denver Pioneers before a home contest with NCAA-participant Drake, on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
