CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Aug. 9, 2017) -- Four University of Wyoming Cowgirl golfers were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) this past July.
Sarah Hankins was joined by
Mackenzie Barrie,
Megan Knadler and
Erin Sargent. Hankins was recognized for the second time, as Barrie, Knadler and Sargent earned the honor for the first time. With four honorees, it was the most All-American Scholars Wyoming has had in the same year.
"I am so proud of these high achieving ladies and how they represent our program," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "Along with the record breaking performances on the course this year, this is a tremendous and well-deserved honor for each of these program leaders."
Barrie, a native of Vernon, British Columbia, graduated this summer with a degree in kinesiology and health promotion. She closed out her terrific career with the fifth-best stroke average (76.6) in program history. Barrie competed in all ten tournaments for UW with her best finish coming at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate last fall. She recorded the third top-15 finish of her career as she brought home a share of 15th with a score of 224 (+16). Barrie had seven top-30 finishes for the Brown and Gold this past year and was also a member of the Academic All-MW team in addition to being named a MW Scholar-Athlete.
Knadler, a sophomore from Phoenix, is majoring in kinesiology at UW. She was also one of four Cowgirls to compete in all 29 rounds this past year and was fourth on the team with a 77.3 scoring average. Knadler posted four top-20 finishes in 2016-17, with her best coming at the Battle at the Rock. She earned a share of fifth-place to lead the Brown and Gold after recording a three-round total of 224 (+8). This spring, she earned Academic All-Mountain West honors and was named a MW Scholar-Athlete as well.
Hankins is majoring in mechanical engineering and is a native of Thornton, Colo. She recorded her best-career finish Nebraska Chip N' Club this last fall. She finished the tournament with a share of eighth place after a three-round score of 221 (+15). It also proved to be the lowest individual tournament score of the 2016-17 season for the Cowgirls. Furthermore, Hankins was a spring 2017 Academic All-MW team member in addition to earning MW Scholar-Athlete honors.
Sargent, a native of Longmont, Colo., is majoring in management at UW. She was also one of four Cowgirls to compete in all ten tournaments and 29 rounds in 2016-17. Her 76.7 scoring average tied for sixth-best in Cowgirl history. Sargent posted her first career top-20 finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, where she finished 20th with a 227 (+11). She finished within the top-25 in four of UW's six spring tournaments and was both an Academic All-MW team member and MW Scholar-Athlete.
