GoWyo.com will connect with several Cowboy basketball
players throughout the summer in a special weekly series called "Connecting
with the Cowboys." This week we visit with freshman Hunter Maldonado, a native
of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
GoWyo.com –How are you adjusting to the college game and the program?
Maldonado – It's been a process but I'm slowly adapting and getting
into a rhythm. That's what the summer is for.
GoWyo.com – How do you feel coming to Wyoming following a
long list of talented Colorado players who have had great careers here?
Maldonado – It's exciting, but I want to do whatever I can
to help the team.
GoWyo.com – What kind of player should Wyoming fans expect
to see?
Maldonado – I'm a slasher, I can get to the rim pretty well.
If I'm open I can knock down threes, too.
GoWyo.com – What improvements to your game have you focused on
this summer?
Maldonado – On offense, making my shot more consistent. Then
obviously improving my abilities on the defensive end. If you can't defend, you're
not going to be on the floor.
GoWyo.com –What made you choose Wyoming over other schools?
Maldonado – I have a great connection with the coaching
staff here. I love what Coach Edwards preaches; everything he talks about is
what my high school talked about so it was a perfect it. And the facilities are
some of the best.
GoWyo.com – What player would you compare yourself to?
Maldonado – I'm a pretty versatile player but hopefully in a
couple years I'll be like Justin James. He has a great jumper and he's an
attacker, he gets to the rim. If I can work myself up to his level that would
be awesome.
