Summary

Biography

2017-18: James was one of the top players in the Mountain West last season. He earned First Team All-MW honors and was named All-District 17 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was named MW Player of the Week on Jan. 29 after scoring a career-high 33 points in back-to-back games. James led the Pokes in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game to go along with 6.0 rebounds per night and 3.1 assists per game. In conference play, James averaged 20.8 points per game ranking second in the MW. James scored 20 or more points 15 times this season including a career-high 33 points on two occasions. He shot 48 percent from the field going 207-of-430. James recorded six double-doubles on the season scoring 20 or more points in all six performances. He scored 30 or more points four times including a career-best 33 in back-to-back games against Nevada and at San Jose State. He went over the 1,000 point plateau in the Boise state in the Arena-Auditorium, as the Pokes took the contest. He grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds three times last season coming against Drake, South Carolina and Texas Southern. James dished out a season-high six assists on three different occasions. He ranks 19th in career scoring at Wyoming with 1,355 points, as he has averaged 13.7 points per game in his career.
 

2016-17: James was a third team All-MW selection. He was also named the MVP of the College Basketball Invitational. He led the Cowboys in scoring averaging 16 points per game. He also added five rebounds and 2.1 assists per night. He shot 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from behind the three point line, while shooting 76 percent from the charity stripe. He scored in double-figures in 30 games and scored 20 or more points in 12 contests. He scored a career-high 28 points at Cal. He hit a career-high nine field goals with the last coming against Colorado State on Feb. 14. He grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against New Mexico, while scoring 22 points for his first career double-double on Feb. 25. In a contest at Air Force on Feb. 4, James recorded a career-high seven assists, while adding 26 points. He scored 27 points for the Cowboys in 24 minutes against Troy in December. He hit a career-high four triples at San Diego State on Jan. 31.
 
2015-16: Justin James played in 30 games, including three starts, during his first year in the Wyoming program. He averaged 5.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game, while shooting 42 percent from the floor and 36 percent beyond the arc. His top showing was a career-high 13 points and three rebounds in a career-high 30 minutes at New Mexico State on Dec. 13. He scored in double figures in seven games during the season, including three straight at one point. He also posted a career-high three triples against Montana State on Nov. 28 and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds at Nevada on Jan. 2. James' 5.2 points per game ranked fifth on the team.
 
Before Wyoming: A 6-7, 180-pound shooting guard, James played his senior season in 2014-15 at Oldsmar Christian High School under coach Jordan Fair. James helped the squad go 26-4 overall, as he averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists per game during the regular season. He was named Sunshine Independent Athletic Association Player of the Year and was a a three-star recruit according to 247 Sports and Rivals.
 
As a junior in 2013-14 he competed for West Centennial High School where he averaged 21.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 blocks per game. He was named the 2014 Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers Player of the Year and is ranked a three-star recruit by 247 Sports.
 
Personal: James also had scholarship offers from numerous schools, including Mississippi State, Florida Gulf Coast and George Mason. James verbally committed to Wyoming on Sept. 14. He is majoring in kinesiology at Wyoming.
