CHANDLER, Ariz. – Wyoming men's golf completed the first two rounds of
the Cowboy Classic on Monday at the Whirlwind Golf Course. The Cowboys finished
the day with a team score of 584 (+8) and are currently in 10th place out of
the 18-team field.
The Cowboys jumped out to a hot
start in the opening round, posting a 285 (-1) that left them tied for second.
Senior Ryan Wallen led the Pokes with a 68 (-4), carding five birdies and just
one bogey. Wallen was tied for second after 18 holes. Junior Arron Lickteig
posted a 71 (-1), tying his lowest round of the year that left him tied for
25th. Junior Drew McCullough and John Murdock each scored rounds of 73 (+1) to
help UW to a solid first round.
Murdock stepped up in the second
round for UW with a 73 (+1), as the Cowboys struggled through the afternoon. Lickteig
posted a 75 (+3), playing his final six holes at two under, while Wallen also
scored a 75 (+3). McCullough finished with a 76 (+4), but notched three birdies
and no bogeys to shoot three under on the back nine.
"We had a good, solid morning.
Things didn't go as well this afternoon, but we just have to write it off and
move on," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "The course is in great shape and we
love hosting this event. We will come out tomorrow and play more like we did
this morning."
Long Beach State currently leads
the pack with a two-round score of 567 (-9). Joe Fryer of Long Beach State is
the low individual, posting a 137 (-7). Fryer carded a 66 (-6) in the afternoon
session, the lowest round of the tournament thus far. Eight other players are
within four strokes of the lead.
Tomorrow's round will again be a
shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT. Pairings and live stats for the final
