FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Freshman Scotia Mullin placed third in
the men's platform event to highlight the final day of competition at the NCAA
Zone E Championships. Freshman Karla Contreras finished seventh in the women's platform.
Mullin qualified for
the final after a preliminary score of 377.75 that left him in second place. Redshirt-sophomore Ryan Russi also qualified for
the final round after a mark of 274.00 that put him in 13th place. Mullin
finished the final round of platform with a total of 732.25 to place third and
qualify for the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Russi ended the
day in 14th with a score of 515.45. Mullin is the first Wyoming men's diver to
qualify for NCAA Championships since Mark Murdock in 2011.
"Throughout the weekend, both
Karla [Contreras] and Scotia [Mullin] battled through some adversity and
stepped up to do what they needed to do," UW head diving coach Kyle Bogner
said. "They both performed well against some really tough competition."
Contreras led the Cowgirls in the
preliminary round with a score of 256.20, leaving her in seventh. Senior Lauren Puglisi placed 24th with a mark of 194.30, while senior Keely Bishop finished
the preliminary in 26th with a score of 192.55. After the final, Contreras
finished with a 12-dive score of 514.10. Contreras qualified for the NCAA Women's
NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship in all three events. She will be the
second Cowgirl diver to reach NCAA Championships in as many years after Kari
Campbell qualified last season.

Harutjunjan will return to the pool next week for the NCAA Championships, being
held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The meet runs
from Thursday, March 16, to Saturday, March 18.
