Contreras Places Fifth on Day Two of Zones

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.  – Freshman Karla Contreras placed fifth in the 1-meter event to lead the Wyoming divers on the second day of competition at the NCAA Zone E Championships.  

Contreras qualified for the final after placing fourth in preliminaries. In the final event, Contreras finished with a total of 581.20. Senior Lauren Puglisi notched a mark of 230.05 in the preliminary round to place 32nd while senior Keely Bishop scored a 223.20 to place 37th. Neither advanced to the final.

Redshirt-sophomore Ryan Russi was the only Cowboy competing in the 3-meter. Russi scored a 279.15 in the preliminary round to place 20th. He was less than five points shy of breaking into the top-18 in order to qualify for the finals.

The Wyoming divers will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of Zones. The Cowgirls will compete on the platform, followed by the men on the platform. Live results can be found at divemeets.com.
