STANFORD, Calif. – Wyoming men's golf kicked off its three-day
tournament The Goodwin at the Stanford Golf Course with a team score of 294
(+14) on Thursday. The Cowboys sit tied for 11th out of the field of 24 teams.
Junior Drew McCullough continued
his impressive run this week with a one-under round of 69. His day included two
eagles and he closed out his last four holes at four under. He is the only
player in the field with multiple eagles and one of 10 players under par after
the opening round. McCullough leads 12 of the 13 individuals ranked in the
NCAA's top 50.
"We played solid, even though we
left some shots out there," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "Really tough
conditions with the wind, so I'm pleased with how we started. Drew [McCullough]
played great and Quintin [Pope] and Ryan [Wallen] also had good rounds today."
Senior Ryan Wallen carded a 72
(+2) with Wyoming's second-lowest score. Junior Quintin Pope finished with a 74
(+4), while junior Glenn Workman and sophomore John Murdock each ended the day
with a 79 (+9).
Eight of the 24 teams in the field
are currently ranked in the NCAA top 50. UW currently leads No. 5 Oregon at +16
and No. 19 Colorado at +18. The tournament will resume tomorrow with tee times
