Eugene, Ore. – Wyoming men's golf sits in ninth place after 36
holes at the Duck Invitational on Monday, hosted by the University of Oregon at
the Eugene Country Club.
The Cowboys finished the day with
a team score of 592 (+24) after a 297 on the first 18 holes and a 295 in the
second round. Junior Glenn Workman led the team with a fairly clean card in the
opening round, tallying a 72 (+1) with one birdie and two bogeys. Sophomore
John Murdock shot a 74 (+3) in the first round, helping the Cowboys to a
10th-place position after 18 holes.
Junior Drew McCullough led the way
in the afternoon as the only Cowboy to shoot under par. After notching his
fourth birdie of the round with four holes to play, McCullough made par on
every hole to secure his one-under 70. While the field struggled on the par 3 holes
of the Eugene Country Club, McCullough played them one under, tied for the
second-best mark as an individual.
Senior Ryan Wallen also bounced back in the second round, posting a 73
(+2) and moving UW up to ninth in the standings.
"No one could quite get anything
going, but overall I'm not unhappy with how we played today," UW head coach Joe
Jensen said. "The conditions were tough today. It's a wonderful course but
there has been a lot of rain and we played in full rain gear the entire day.
Drew [McCullough] had a great second round. We haven't had any competition for
over a month so I'm cautiously pleased with how today went. I want to build
throughout the second half of the spring season and today was the start of
that. We're in a good position for the final round."
The Cowboys return to the course
tomorrow for the final round of the Duck Invite, teeing off at 9:30 a.m. MT.
