INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freshman Karla Contreras made her first
appearance at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, placing 19th in the 1-meter
event at the IU Natatorium.
Contreras scored a
269.40 on her six dives, less than six points outside of qualifying for the
consolation final. She is the first Cowgirl freshman to compete at the NCAA Championships
since Norma Hughes in 1991.
Contreras and junior
Maria Harutjunjan will both compete tomorrow, starting with swimming trials at
8 a.m. MT, followed by diving preliminaries at 10:30 a.m.
