Wednesday MWC Results
College Station, Texas – Cowgirl swimming and
diving is tied for third place after the first day of action at the Mountain
West Championships at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, Texas.
Wyoming sits tied for
third after the first three events of the MW Championships with 166 points.
Boise State leads the field with 200 points, followed closely by Nevada with
198 points. San Diego State matched Wyoming's performance with 166 points. New
Mexico is fifth with 115 points and San Jose State sits in sixth with 110
points. Colroado State (94 pts.), UNLV (84 pts.), Fresno State (84 pts.) and
Air Force (53 pts.) round out the rankings.
The evening's events
started with the 200 medley relay. Wyoming's team of sophomore Isobel Ryan, junior Maria Harutjunjan, sophomore Samantha Burke and senior Danielle Badger put
forward a season-best time of 1:39.05 to finish second. Freshman diver Karla Contreras helped the Cowgirls continue to rack up points with a second-place
mark on the 1-meter board, scoring a career-high 355.45. Contreras' performance
shattered her previous career best of 307.80 as well as the school record of
325.95, set in 2014 by Amanda Fay.
The final event of
the session was the 800 freestyle relay. The Cowgirls' team, comprised of
junior Kelly Sheldon, junior Rachel McKivigan, junior Alanna Dassoff and
sophomore Marcela Gramcko clocked a time of 7:21.73 to place fifth. Their time
bested their previous season best by over seven seconds.
The Cowgirls will
return to action tomorrow morning with the preliminary session at 11 a.m. MT
followed by the finals of five events beginning in the 6:30 p.m. session.
