DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 3, 2017) – Two individuals and one doubles earned victories on the opening day of the Red and Blue Challenge on Friday in Dallas.
"The ladies got after it today which was fun to watch," head coach
Dean Clower said. "We switched up some doubles combinations and it was good to see them play the way they did with very little practice. If we compete and practice the way we did today we will be very tough to beat for any team."
In singles action, junior
Tessa van Der Ploeg defeated Sarai Monarrez-Yesaki, 7-5, 6-1, while sophomore
Ana Tkachenko beat Nicole Petchey, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Liz Buss (SMU) beat senior
Magdalena Stencel, 6-3, 6-3, while Ana Perez-Lopez defeated junior
Elisa Koonik in a three-set match, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. The final Cowgirl in action sophomore
Milka Genkova who lost to Anzhelika Shapovalova, 6-4, 6-1.
The duo of Stencel and Tkachenko defeated Marta Bellucco and Ting-Ya Hsu of Wichita State, 7-5, while Koonik and van Der Ploeg dropped a 6-1 contest against Gabriela Prubin and Fatima Bizhukova.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. MT at the Red and Blue Challenge.
