COLUMBIA, Mo. (Nov. 16, 2017) – Wyoming men's and women's swim and dive teams are currently in third place after the first day of Mizzou Invite on Friday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Cowboys earned 193.50 points and trail Missouri and Drury. The Cowgirls tallied 161 points, behind Missouri and Nebraska.

Both men's and women's teams started the evening session with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The Cowgirls' time of 1:33.16 was almost four seconds faster than their previous mark this season. The Cowboys clocked a 1:22.30 in their first 200 freestyle relay race this season.

Freshman Elijah Chan advanced to the final session of the men's 1-meter after a season-high score of 256.50 in the prelims. He finished 12th with a mark of 246.15 in the final. Sophomore Karla Contreras and junior Peyton GrandPre each advanced to the final of the women's 3-meter. Contreras placed third, scoring a 314.40, while GrandPre placed 10th with a 261.95. GrandPre's score was a season best.

Sophomore Talita Te Flan was the Cowgirls' top finisher in the 500 freestyle, winning the B final with a time of 4:50.98. Her mark was the fastest of any Cowgirl this season, the first under five minutes. In the men's 500 freestyle, junior Jack Herron placed seventh overall with a time of 4:28.07, 13 seconds faster than any other Cowboy so far this season.

Two Cowgirls finished top-eight in the 100 butterfly, led by freshman Hannah McLean-Leonard. The Durban, South Africa, native placed fourth with a time of 54.15. Junior Samantha Burke placed seventh, clocking a 54.96. Both were season-best times. Senior Jacob Porter placed sixth in the men's 100 butterfly with a 47.98, his fastest time of the season and by any Cowboy this year.

The men's 200 individual medley proved to be a strong race for the Cowboys. Senior Wade Nelson clocked a 1:47.53 to place fourth, while junior Liam Holt secured eighth with a time of 1:52.16. Both Nelson and Holt swam season-best times, and Nelson's is now the fastest by any Cowboy this season.
