GoWyo.com will take a look at the Cowboy basketball team over the coming weeks, as Wyoming prepares to open the season on Nov. 3 in an exhibition contest against Regis University in the Arena-Auditorium. Today will feature the veteran forwards for the Cowboys' that are featured in the Pokes' Versatile offense. The group also features the top two rebounders from last season's team.
Honorable Mention All-MW selection
Hayden Dalton returns to highlight the group, as he added 12.2 points per game and a team-best 8.3 rebounds during his junior campaign. He scored in double figures in 26 games including 10-straight from Dec. 10 to Jan. 18.
Senior forward
Alan Herndon, who averaged 11.1 points per game last season starting all 38 games also returns. He was second on the team in rebounds adding 6.0 per game. Herndon hit 58 three pointers last season ranking second on the team. He led the team and was third in the MW in blocks at 74 on the season ranking sixth in single-season school history.
Junior forward
Jordan Naughton averaged 4.4 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds in 26 starts. He shot 60 percent from the field going 89-of-138. Sophomore forward
Andrew Moemeka added 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Moemeka appeared in 26 games with four starts for the Pokes.
The following is Coach Edwards' player-by-player analysis of the 2017-18 returning Forwards:
Hayden Dalton • Senior
"Hayden (Dalton) has really stepped up his work ethic to a whole new level. He is an instant-offense type of player. He worked hard to continue to get better on the defensive end of the floor. We look for him to be a key player for us this season."
Alan Herndon • Senior
"Al (Herndon) is the glue guy for this basketball team. He does everything we want defensively. We want him to be more aggressive offensively and create opportunities for advantages for the Cowboys. He can be an important piece for us this season."
Jordan Naughton • Junior
"Jordan (Naughton) is a long athlete with tremendous potential. He did a great job in the summer working on his body. He can be a great presence in the offensive post for the Cowboys. He gives us great presence at the rim on defense."
Andrew Moemeka • Forward
"Andrew (Moemeka) has really impressed me and the staff. His energy and activity are great. He exemplifies our system in terms of his hustle. He runs the floor very well and has worked on his offensive game."
The Cowboys faceoff against Regis on Friday, Nov. 3 in an exhibition game in the Arena-Auditorium, before tipping off the regular season against Chattanooga on Friday, Nov. 10 in Laramie.
