ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Wyoming swimming and diving was handed its first dual loss of the 2017-18 season on Saturday afternoon at New Mexico, 178-122.
The Cowgirls are now 2-1 in dual meets after splitting results this weekend. UW grabbed victories in four of the day's 16 events, with senior
Maria Harutjunjan and sophomore
Karla Contreras each winning two events. Contreras placed first in the 1-meter board with a score of 306.30 and later repeated on the 3-meter board with a mark of 328.20. Harutjunjan demonstrated why she's the defending Mountain West champion in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, easily winning the 100 breaststroke by nearly a second with a time of 1:04.60 and the 200 breaststroke by more than two seconds, touching the wall in 2:21.68.
Wyoming placed second in both relays. First, in the 400 medley relay team with a team of junior
Samantha Burke, Harutjunjan, freshman Hannah McLean-Leonard and senior
Kelly Sheldon that clocked a 3:50.91. In the 200 freestyle relay, the Cowgirls finished in 1:37.99 with a team of senior
Rachel McKivigan, Burke, junior
Isobel Ryan and McLean-Leonard.
The Wyoming women will be back in action at home on Thursday against Colorado State. Then on Sunday, both squads will face off against Air Force for Senior Day.
