BOULDER, Colo. – Redshirt senior Scott Carter posted a winning mark of 51 feet, 1 inch in the men's triple jump while taking second place in the men's 60-meter hurdles on Saturday, headlining a number of solid performances by the University of Wyoming track & field team on the final day of the Potts Invitational. Carter demolished the field in the triple jump, winning the event by nearly four feet.

"He's a great all-around athlete," head coach Bryan Berryhill said about Carter following the meet. "He's one that's very important to how we do as a team. We had a pretty typical first meet after winter break. We had some really good things happen and we had some areas we need to work on and get better in."

Sophomore Martin Fitzwater crushed his personal record in the shot put to provide another highlight for the Cowboys on Saturday, throwing 52-10.25 to take third place. Junior Garrett Lynch was seventh, tossing 50-11.

Redshirt freshman Sam Kirkeide had a strong showing in the men's 60-meter dash, taking second place with a time of 6.93, while fellow redshirt freshman Jace Marx took fourth in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.80. Bryce Ailshie took sixth in the men's 400 meters, clocking in at 48.84. In the women's 60-meter dash, Melina Harris and Makayla Pzinski took second and fourth, respectively, with times of 7.66 and 7.76.

Calum Kepler placed fifth in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:55.84, while Lauren Hamilton, Cassidy Meade, Calbi Ausmann and Solana Quistorff finished fifth through eighth in the women's 800 meters. Jonah Henry placed fifth in the men's mile, crossing the finish line in 4:18.31.

After posting a time of 8.19 seconds to qualify for the finals of the men's 60-meter hurdles, Carter improved his time to 8.16 in the finals to finish in second place. Senior Mikalah Skates was similarly successful in the women's 60-meter hurdles, finishing in third place with a time of 8.86. Redshirt freshman Ariana Williams placed seventh, clocking 9.08.

"The throwers and jumpers had a pretty solid weekend for us," Berryhill said. "We just need to get better every meet. Today was a starting point."

A handful of Cowgirls will head to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Thursday for the multi-event portion of the Air Force Invitational, while the rest of the team will be back in action at the Powder River Dual vs. Montana State in Gillette, Wyo., on Jan. 28.
