SJSU-UW: Box Score | Season Stats | v. Fresno State: Game Center

The University of Wyoming volleyball team produced a well-balanced attack to earn a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-14, 25-23) of San Jose State in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Thursday night. The Cowgirls had three players with six kills or more to begin conference play and guide UW to its fifth-consecutive straight-set win at home this season. UW (8-6 overall, 1-0 MW) has also now won five-straight Mountain West home openers, and five in a row at home against SJSU.

"It was a team effort tonight and I think we made plays when we needed to," UW head coach Chad Callihan said. "It's especially nice to start conference play with a win. We will get back to work tomorrow and focus on our match on Saturday against Fresno State."

Senior Kayla Slofkiss led UW with nine total kills on Thursday night. She also added two digs, two blocks, one assist and one service ace. Sophomore Reed Copeland recorded six kills and a season-high 11 total blocks for UW. The Federal Way, Wash., native previously had a season-best of eight blocks in the match against Idaho last week. She recorded seven total blocks in the opening set to pace Wyoming this evening.

Senior Laura Beach smashed home seven kills against the Spartans in addition to two blocks, while fellow senior Courtney Chacon tied her season-high of four kills, in addition to six digs and a team-high 20 assists. Chacon has led UW in every match in assists this season, and now has 13 matches with at least 20 assists. She is 12 assists away from moving into sixth place all-time at Wyoming.

Sophomore Emily Lewis had three total blocks for the Cowgirls, as well as two kills. Redshirt freshman Bayly Poor added two kills and a career-high six total blocks, as freshman Madi Fields and junior Lily Austin had four and three digs, respectively.

UW's 15 total team blocks is the second-best this season, as the Cowgirls recorded 16 against Tennessee Tech. Additionally, Wyoming had a hitting percentage of .228 compared to the Spartans .000 during the match.

Up next, the Cowgirls host Fresno State on Saturday. The match will begin at 1 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Mike English Scholarship will be presented before the match and is given annually to the senior with the highest cumulative grade-point average.
