After the first day of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Championships the University of Wyoming Cowboy swimming and diving team holds the top spot with 107 points. It is the second-straight season the Pokes have led after the first day. Air Force is right behind UW with 103 points with UNLV in third place with 95 points.

"The divers were amazing today and were just outstanding," head coach Tom Johnson said. "I'm very pleased at where we are at and tomorrow is a really big day for us."

The Cowboy divers paced UW on the day scoring 49 points. Sophomore Jacob Rehmeier won the 3-meter springboard with a career-best tally of 324.75. It is the second-straight year a Poke has won the board after Derek Campbell took the title a season ago. Freshman Austin Rettinghouse also had a career day placing second tallying a 316.65. Freshman Ryan Russi also placed finishing seventh scoring a 266.20.

"Today went about as good as it could go," UW diving coach Chelsea Popplewell said. "We were able to stay consistent and not get too overwhelmed. We just need to continue this throughout the rest of the week."

The 200 medley relay team of senior Adam Kalms, junior Kyle Scalise, junior George Eglesfield and junior Bryce Carter finished fourth in the race scoring 30 team points for the Cowboys. Their time of 1:27.84 was a school record and the fastest mark since 2009. In the 800 freestyle relay the group of Kalms, junior Brendan Costello, freshman Ryan Ball and junior Ryan Nelson finished fifth in the event with a time of 6:31.67, scoring 28 team points.

"I was pleased with the 200 medley relay team and I thought that we could have even gone faster," Johnson said.

UW returns to the pool Thursday with five events. On tap for the second day of events is the 50 and 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 freestyle relay and the 1-meter springboard.
