GREEN RIVER, Wyo. – Wyoming men's
swimming and diving fell to the University of Utah on Saturday afternoon in
Green River, Wyo., by a score of 171-129.
The Cowboys earned
victories in six of the day's 16 events. Sophomore Jack Herron earned UW's
first win of the dual in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.76. Senior Gabe Rooker swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, with times of 54.59 and
2:01.52, respectively. Senior Ryan Ball outpaced the competition in the 200
backstroke, clocking in at 1:49.81. Junior Wade Nelson placed first in the 200
individual medley, finishing in 1:52.71. On the boards, freshman Scotia Mullin claimed the top score (322.80) on the three-meter, just ahead of
redshirt-sophomore Ryan Russi (317.48)
"It was a great
weekend of racing, I thought the team did a terrific job," UW head coach Tom
Johnson said. "We need to focus on continued improvement in the second half of
the season and see what we can do."
Both the men's and
women's teams competed in the preliminary heats in the final day of the CMU
Invite on Saturday morning. The two squads departed early in order for the men
to meet up with their teammates in Green River.
UW swimming and
diving will be back in action on Jan. 7 against Colorado School of Mines
beginning at 12 p.m. MT at Corbett Pool.
