GREEN RIVER, Wyo. – Wyoming swimming and diving defeated
Colorado Mesa by a score of 193-104 on the men's side and 179-117 on the
women's side, Saturday afternoon at the Green River High School Aquatic Center.
Junior Wade Nelson led the Cowboys with two individual victories and swam
the first leg of Wyoming's winning 400 medley relay team. Nelson won the 200
butterfly with a time of 1:53.84 and then the 200 breaststroke with a time of
2:07.41, while the relay team posted a mark of 3:25.03. A standout performance
from senior Casey Duckworth helped the Cowgirls to the dual win. Duckworth won
the first individual event of the day, the 1000 freestyle, finishing in
10:43.43. The Costa Mesa, Calif. native then tallied a winning time of 2:10.05
in the 200 butterfly.
"Casey Duckworth and Wade Nelson each had
standout performances today, but we have a lot of work to do between now and
the Missouri Invite," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "The divers were
outstanding, as usual, especially against great competition today."
On the boards, senior
Keely Bishop won the one-meter with a score of 246.83 and the three-meter with
a score of 256.43. Freshman Scotia Mullin and senior Jacob Rehmeier claimed
victory for the men's squad. Mullin won the one-meter, scoring a 303.38, while
Rehmeier won the three-meter, posting a 284.48.
