For its fourth-consecutive victory, the University of
Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team swept (25-23, 25-20, 32-30) Utah State on
Saturday night. The win is also the ninth straight-set win this season for
Wyoming, as it moves to 3-0 in Mountain West play for the second year in a row.
"I'm really proud of these girls for getting a win on the
road against a very solid Utah State team," UW head coach Chad Callihan said. "I
thought we executed well at times but played hard all night which then allowed
us to grind out and get a few key points throughout the match."
Senior Kayla Slofkiss led the Cowgirls (10-6, 3-0 MW) with
a season-high 15 kills. She also recorded seven digs and three assists, in
addition to two blocks for the Brown and Gold. Fellow senior Laura Beach was the
only other Cowgirl with double-digit kills during the match. Beach had 13
kills, as well as three blocks during her last visit to the Wayne Estes Center in Logan.
Senior Courtney Chacon had a season-high 40 assists for Wyoming against the
Aggies. It was her seventh match with at least 30 assists, and she was also only one dig away from her team-best
fourth double-double of the season.
Freshman Madi Fields tied her career-high with 16 digs for
the Cowgirls. It marked her second time leading Wyoming in digs. She also had a
career-high four assists on Saturday night. Sophomore Reed Copeland and
freshman Tara Traphagan each added six kills for UW. It tied Traphagan's career-high, as redshirt freshman
Bayly Poor and Chacon each had four against Utah State. Freshman Halie McArdle also recorded a career-high seven digs for the Cowgirls.
Wyoming will once again hit the road for two more MW contests
next week. The Cowgirls will face UNLV on Thursday and New Mexico on Saturday.
