2015-16: Harms ended his career as the first Cowboy to
qualify for the NCAA Championships twice that did not also play football for
the Cowboys. At the NCAA Championships, Harms opened with a major decision
(12-2) over Garrett Ryan of Columbia. He then won his second round match in the
consolation bracket with a pin of Ray O'Donnell of Princeton 2:35 into the
match. Harms finished with two pins in Madison Square Garden, as he also pinned
Mike Hughes of Hofstra in the third round consolation and closed his career
with a 63-30 career record. Harms was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week
after winning the Reno Tournament of Champions. Additionally, Harms took second
at 285 pounds at the Big 12 Championship to secure a spot for his second NCAA
Championship.
2014-15: Harms had another solid season at heavyweight for the Pokes. He earned a trip to his first NCAA Championship. Harms was a Third Team All-WWC selection. He finished the season with a 18-12 record and went 9-2 against wrestlers in the WWC. He finished the season with five wins and on major decision. He picked up a big pin for the Pokes against Oregon State helping UW winning the dual for the Cowboys. He picked up five wins on the season against ranked opponents with his best coming against No. 12 Tyler Deuel of Binghamton.
2013-14: Another solid season was shortened by injury for Harms as a sophomore heavyweight. He placed third in the Cowboy Open with a 3-1 mark, and made the title match of the Northwest Open, but was forced into an injury default. His elbow injury kept him out of the lineup until Jan. 19, when he returned to the mat against South Dakota State. He placed first in the Rocky Mountain Open, and went 1-1 in his remaining duals. He was fourth at the West Regional with one win and was 11-6 for the season with six falls. Harms was named the Outstanding Junior for the College of Engineering and Applied Science in March 2014. Harms, who studies mechanical engineering, maintained a GPA of 3.857 in the spring semester. The sophomore heavyweight made his second-straight WWC All-Academic team, boasting a 3.86 GPA in mechanical engineering. Harms finished second in the entire league in GPA after leading in the league in 2013 in that category.
2012-13: Harms got off to a hot start to the year, but suffered a season-ending injury in December and was knocked out of the Cowboy lineup. Prior to his hamstring injury, Harms went 12-5 with three pins and three major decisions. He was first at the UNK Holiday Inn Open with a 4-0 mark. He went 3-1 in dual action, with his lone loss coming to the second-ranked heavyweight in the nation, Alan Gelogaev of Oklahoma State, in an 8-5 decision. He was recognized by the UW coaching staff for keeping a GPA of 3.5 or better all season.
2011-12: In his redshirt season, Harms proved his worth at heavyweight for UW, wrestling in 20 matches and winning 14 of them. Of his 14 wins, nine came by fall (fourth on UW) and two came by major decision. He placed in four tournaments, starting out the season with a third-place finish in the Northwest Open. He was fifth in the UNK Loper Open, and was first in the Utah Valley and Rocky Mountain Opens to end the year. Harms finished the season with six-straight victories, five by bonus points. He was named as one of two Outstanding Academic Freshmen by the Wyoming coaching staff.
High School: Harms progressed in leaps and bounds at the high school level and in the U.S. wrestling system during his prep career. Harms compiled a 120-12 overall record in three years under coach Mike Luhring at Class 5A Cherry Creek High School. Wrestling in the state's largest division, Harms went 38-4 with 17 pins as a senior at 215 pounds to finish sixth at the state tournament. He earned First Team All-Centennial League honors, while placing well at several prestigious tournaments throughout the season, including second at the Rocky Mountain Nationals. He was named the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler and earned the Most Takedowns Award with 81 during the season. As a junior, Harms finished third at the state tournament at 189 pounds courtesy of a 40-5 mark with 20 pins. He won the regional tournament and earned First Team All-Conference honors, while also placing fourth at the Rocky Mountain Nationals. As a sophomore, Harms went 42-3 at 171 pounds at the junior varsity level. Harms wrestled well in the USA wrestling system at several levels and styles. He placed third at 215 pounds at the Folkstyle Junior National Championships to earn All-America honors and a spot on the U.S. Junior National team. During the summer of 2010, he was the Colorado state champion at 189 pounds in the junior Greco-Roman division and placed second in junior freestyle. At the Cadet level in the summer of 2009, he won the Greco-Roman division and finished runner-up in freestyle. A two-time team captain for his high school, Harms earned Academic All-State honors twice in the classroom. He had a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and scored 31 on the ACT.
Personal: Harms was born in Aurora, Colo., and he is the son of Adley and Jenifer Harms. He has one sibling, Mason. Both his parents played collegiate sports at Taylor University. He is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at UW. He also was recruited by Cornell College and Liberty.
