Hanson accrued four wins by fall, including one of the team's fastest pins, coming in just 1 minute, 20 seconds. He was recognized by the UW coaching staff at the year-end banquet for keeping a GPA above 3.0 for the season.

High School: Despite wrestling for just a few years, Hanson was immediately successful at the sport. He won two state titles in his junior and senior seasons at Lander Valley High. Hanson was so dominant he earned the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award for the state of Wyoming. The national award is named in honor of the late Olympic and world champion Dave Schultz. Each award recipient is evaluated on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service. Hanson excelled in the classroom, as well, earning Academic All-State honors as a junior and senior. He also was a talented football player, earning All-Conference and All-State honors as a lineman.

Personal: Hanson was born in Lander, Wyo., and he is the son of Andrew and Nancy Hanson. He has one sibling, Jason. He has not decided on a major at UW.
