2016-17: Mendenhall closed out his career with the Cowboys after securing his first trip to the NCAA Championships. At Nationals, Mendenhall went 1-2 with a 4-1 decision over Sam Krivus of Virginia. Mendenhall secured his trip to Nationals by pinning Alex Kocer of South Dakota State in the third-place match at the Big 12 Championships. Mendenhall began his senior season winning his first 12 matches. He won the Cowboy and UNC Open. He also won the Reno Tournament of Champions with a perfect 5-0 record. Four is his five victories in Vegas came via bonus points. Mendenhall posted a 30-10 record, going 8-5 in duals and 7-4 against the Big 12. He earned ten pins with five majors for the Brown and Gold.
2015-16: Mendenhall joined the Cowboy lineup halfway through the season, moving from 141 pounds to 149 pounds. He went 2-2 at the Big 12 Championships, just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Championship and ended the season with a 17-9 overall record. He also went 9-5 against Big 12 opponents and had five pins and five major decisions during his junior campaign.
2014-15: Mendenhall was a key member of the Cowboys in his sophomore season. He finished the season with a 16-16 overall record and finished the season with one pin. Mendenhall was named Third Team All-WWC after going 2-1 at the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championship. He earned a second place finish at the Cowboy open falling to No. 17 Anthony Abidin of Nebraska in the finals. He sported a six match winning streak, which included going 3-0 at the Journeyman/ASICS Northeast Duals.
2013-14: Mendenhall seized the starting role at 141 pounds and kept the spot throughout the season with some great performances. The aggressive youngster began his season 9-0 with two tournament titles, in the Cowboy and Northwest Opens. He helped UW win its opening dual versus Boise State with an 8-6 decision in sudden victory. After a rough patch, he turned things around with a 4-2 showing in the always-tough Reno Tournament of Champions. Down the home stretch, Mendenhall was 5-0 to end the regular season, including three falls. For the year, he was 21-10 (seventh on UW) with 11 falls to lead all starters. He posted two major decisions for 13 bonus-point wins. He went 7-5 in duals and was 5-2 versus conference opponents. In the West Regional, he went 1-1, dropping a heartbreaker in the title match, 8-7. He just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Championships. In the freestyle portion of his season, he went 2-2 at 66 kilograms (145.5 pounds) in the ASICS Junior National Championships.
2012-13: Redshirting in his first season with UW, Mendenhall showed his talent off early and often. He ranked in the top five in several categories for the season on the team, including No. 4 in wins (25), No. 2 in pins (10) and No. 2 in technical falls (3). He wrestled in six open tournaments, winning five of them and placing third in the other. He tallied a mark of 25-1, with 14 bonus-point wins. The champion of the Cowboy Open, UNK Holiday Inn Open, Battle of the Rockies, the UNK Loper Open and the Utah Valley Open, his lone loss came in an 8-7 decision in the Northwest Open. He won his last 18 bouts of the year in folkstyle competition. Mendenhall was seventh at FILA Junior Nationals in April 2013, going 3-2 at 63 kilograms (138.75 pounds).
High School: Mendenhall joined some exclusive company after his senior year, when he became a four-time Montana state champion. He compiled a 130-7 career record, for a winning percentage of 95 percent. In his senior season, he finished second at Senior Nationals to earn All-America honors.
Personal: Mendenhall was born in Billings, Mont., and he is the son of of John Mendenhall and Tamara Haynes. He has three siblings: Logan, Zach and Dylan. He has not decided on a major at UW. He also received interest from Boise State, Iowa and Minnesota.
