Teyon Ware will be in his eighth season as an assistant coach for University of Wyoming in 2022-23.
During the 2021-22 season, Ware helped coach for Cowboys to the NCAA tournament and was instrumental in Stephen Buchanan's run to a Big12 Championship and his All-American performance at the national tournament.
In 2020, Ware helped guide five Cowboys to selections to the NCAA Wrestling Championships while also being a part of Brian Andrews' Big 12 championship at heavyweight. A total of eight Pokes found themselves ranked throughout the 2019-20 season.
Ware helped coach the Cowboys to a 16-4 overall record and a 7-2 mark against Big 12 opponents in 2019. The Cowboys’ 16 dual wins were the most during the Mark Branch era and marked the highest dual win total by a Wyoming team since 1967. Ware also helped oversee seven Cowboys qualifying for the NCAA Championships, also tying the most in the Mark Branch era.
In 2018, Ware helped guide Cowboy seniors Bryce Meredith and Archie Colgan to the program’s first Big 12 individual titles on the way to a fourth-place team finish. Six Cowboys qualified for the NCAA Championships, with Meredith claiming national runner-up at 141 pounds and redshirt freshman earning his first career All-America honors.
In just his second season, he helped guide the Pokes to a fifth-place finish at the 2017 Big 12 Championships. Five Cowboys went on to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships under the guidance of Ware of the Cowboy wrestling staff.
Ware joined the Pokes just before the 2015-16 season after serving as an assistant coach at Binghamton University for three seasons. During his time with the Bearcats he helped send eight wrestlers to the NCAA Championship. Prior to his time at Binghamton he was a club coach for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club in State College, Penn. He also made stops as a club coach with the Prodigy Wrestling Club in Dayton, Ohio and the Oklahoma Underdog Wrestling Club in Norman, Okla.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Ware wrestled at the University of Oklahoma winning two NCAA Individual championships at 141 pounds and earned a spot in the final three times. He won NCAA Championships during his freshman and junior seasons. In 2003, he was a Big XII conference champion and also earned Big XII Outstanding Wrestler award. In 2006, he was named to the Big XII 10th Anniversary Team. Ware also excelled on the international stage earning a bronze medal finish at the 2011 Pan-Am Games. He was also the United States National Champion and most outstanding wrestler of the tournament. He earned a spot on the United States team at the World Championships and was also a World Cup team member.
He is 2007 graduate of the University of Oklahoma majoring in mass communications.
