Summary

Biography

2010... Ekel was one of Wyoming's most consistent threats last season, often giving teammate Greg Miller a run for his money in several races for top team finisher. His stellar season earned him his first UW letter. A transfer from Michigan, he acclimated himself to training at Laramie's altitude, which helped him immensely during competition. He achieved three top-15 finishes in some of the best meets in the country last season. His 13th-place finish at the MW Championships earned him Second Team All-Conference honors along with Miller. Look for him to perform even better in his senior year, with young and talented runners pushing him.

2008-09... While running at Saginaw Valley, Nick received several honors for his running achievements. He was named First-Team All-Conference in 2009, and was named the team's most dedicated runner in 2009 and its most outstanding freshman in 2008. He also came in 48th at the NCAA DII cross country championships.

High School... Nick enjoyed a decorated prep career in track and cross country. He was named team captain in his senior year, and received all-state and all-conference nods in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. He also was named most improved in 2005 and most inspirational in 2006 and 2007.

Personal... Nick was born April 1 in Lansing, Mich. His parents are Nicholas and Mary Jo Ekel. He plans to study geography.
