Shaun Meinecke

Coach Meinecke enters his fifth season as an assistant track and field coach at Wyoming in 2016-17. His primary coaching responsibilities for the program include the sprints, hurdles and combined events.

During the 2015-16 season, Meinecke’s student-athletes earned four all-conference awards, two of which belonged to Jordan Charles in the 60-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles. Charles also earned a berth at the NCAA Championships for the 60-meter hurdles. During the 2014-15 campaign, Meinecke’s student-athletes earned three All-Mountain West honors during the indoor season and seven for the outdoor season. The previous season he guided Kereston Thomas to conference titles in the 200 meters indoors and 100 meters outdoors, while Taylor Gardner won the 400-meter hurdles and Kyle Sullivan the decathlon. He also coached Wyoming’s winning 4x100-meter relay. He has coached 37 All-MW performers in his four seasons at Wyoming and 19 NCAA West Preliminary qualifiers, while guiding Kereston Thomas, Jordan Charles and Jenna Mann to program records. 

Before Wyoming, Meinecke coached for three years as an assistant at Long Beach State. In 2011, three Long Beach State student-athletes earned All-Big West honors with the men’s sprinters and hurdlers accounting for 21 points to help the squad to the Big West title.

In his first year with the 49ers (2009-10), three of his athletes earned all-conference honors, while the men’s 4-by-100- and 4-by-400-meter relay squads finished in the top three at the conference meet. Three of his hurdlers qualified for the NCAA?West Preliminary meet, while one advanced to the NCAA?Championships. Previously, he coached at Miami (Ohio) University for three years as an assistant. During his time at Miami, Meinecke helped produce six conference champs, seven national qualifiers, five trips to nationals, and two All-America honors. The Red Hawks set seven school records, one Mid-American Conference record, and one Israeli national record under his guidance.

Meinecke spent two years as the head women’s cross country/track and field coach at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., earlier in his career, earning Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year honors two times. His athletes produced 15 conference crowns, 13 regional qualifying performances, two SoCon records, two Junior National qualifiers, and one NCAA qualifying mark. He helped the Eagles to consecutive second-place finishes at the Southern Conference outdoor championships. Meinecke also was an assistant at Georgia Southern from 2001-03.

He was an NCAA Division III All-America decathlete at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. A three-time national qualifier, he was a member of a national championship team as a member of the distance medley relay.

Meinecke earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Luther College in 2001 and went on to earn his master’s degree in sport management from Georgia Southern in 2003. He married Jaqueline Prieto in the spring of 2015.
