Paul Barrett returns to Wyoming to serve as the Multi Events Coach after spending one year away from the UW track and field program. Barrett previously spent 23 years as the throwing coach for the Pokes through the 2017 season. Barrett also has coaching stops at the University of Kentucky and the University of Colorado.
 
Barrett has coached one NCAA Champion, 19 All–Americans and 32 conference champions during his time at Wyoming.  He has also had 44 conference runner-ups and a total of 114 all-conference (top three) award winners while at Wyoming.  
 
Barrett competed at the collegiate level for Washington State University, where he was a WSU letterman and Pac-10 finalist in the hammer throw. Barrett also competed for Spokane Community College before transfering to Washington State University. While at SCC, Barrett was a three-time NWAACC conference champion and three-time JuCo All-American in the hammer and discus throw events. Barrett was inducted into the Community College of Spokane Hall of Fame in 2013 for his achievements.
 
Barrett graduated from Washington State University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation leisure studies. Paul has two daughters; Kala (25) and Kelsey (20).

- Ryan Butler: 1995 All-American in weight throw, 1996 All-American in hammer throw, 1996 NCAA champion and All-American in weight throw. Top marks (weight throw/hammer throw/discus): 71-1.5 (No. 5 UW all-time), 217-4 (No. 5 UW all-time), 183-6 (No. 8 UW all-time).
- Mason Finley: 2013 indoor All-American in shot put, 2014 indoor All-American in shot put and 2014 All-American in discus. Top marks (discus/shot put/weight throw): 210-6 (No. 2 UW all-time), 66-3.25 (UW indoor record), 63-8.75.
- Jason Hammond: 2000 All-American in weight throw, 2000 All-American in outdoor shot put, 2001 All-American in weight throw, 2001 All-American in hammer throw. Top marks (weight throw/hammer throw/shot put/discus): 69-1.5 (No. 6 UW all-time), 221-1 (No. 2 UW all-time), 63-5.75 (No. 2 UW all-time outdoors), 174-10 (No. 10 UW all-time).
