  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Melanie Heslop is in her first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Wyoming track & field program. She comes to UW from Millikin University, where she was an assistant throws coach for five seasons. At Milliken, Heslop was a part of the 2019 CCIW Men's Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year. During her time, she has coached five all-CCIW performers, and helped 15 athletes record program top-10 marks, including the men's weight throw school record. During her tenure, the team grew from 30 to 70 athletes in just two seasons. Heslop also designed weight lifting programs, as well as conditioning and practice schedules while maintaining all the throwing equipment.

Heslop was a three-time camp director for Milliken, and helped organize the alumni meet from 2016-19. Additionally, Heslop worked extensively in recruiting, both off-campus and on-campus, helping recruits with the application process, financial aid and all the signing paperwork. Administratively, Heslop managed the program's budget, created and organized fundraisers, designed itineraries for travel and lodging, helped with social media and equipment and was the supervisor for Academic Progress Monitoring.

Heslop had an impressive throwing career at Utah State, where she had the No. 4 weight throw and No. 7 hammer throw marks in school history. She was an NCAA First Round Qualifier, as well. She earned a total of seven all-conference honors, four in the Mountain West and three in the WAC, and was named a team captain for her senior season.

Heslop earned a bachelor's degree from Utah State in 2015 and a Master's degree from Milliken in 2019.
