Biography

Senior (2015-16): Layman began his senior season with a 50 back third-place finish (24.44) in a dual with Denver. He then followed with another third-place finish in 50 back (26.75) against SEC member LSU. He helped UW upset No. 14 Utah in early December taking fourth place in the 100 back (51.72) and eighth (51.99) in the 100 fly. Layman recorded a 52.62 time in the 100 back against Arizona State, in addition to a 51.59 in the 100 fly. He also had a mark of 51.57 in the 100 back against UNLV.

Junior (2014-15):
Layman's junior season as a Cowboy got off to a great start as took home a victory against Cal Poly by winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.23. He was also a part of the 400 medley relay team that won the event with a time of 3:26.26. Against Air Force, he finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.48 and against regional rival Denver, Layman placed second behind teammate Adam Kalms in the 50 backstroke with a time of 23.94. At the Colorado Mesa Invite, he finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.35. Layman was named to the All-WAC Academic Team.

Sophomore (2013-14): Layman saw action in nine meets for the Cowboys during his sophomore season. He scored points for Wyoming in the 100 backstroke at the Western Athletic Conference Championship. He swam a career-best 50.02 in the 100 backstroke finishing 10th in the race. Layman also competed in the 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke at the WAC Championship finishing 18th in each event. He swam a personal- best 1:50.01 in the 200 backstroke and a personal-best 49.72 in the 100 butterfly at the WAC Championship. He scored valuable points for the Pokes in their tie with UNLV in a dual meet, as Layman finished third in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 50.02.

Freshman: (2012-13): Layman saw limited action in his first season with the Cowboys. He made one appearance, as he finished seventh in the 100 backstroke at the Air Force Academy Dual with a time of 54.87.

High School: Layman joins the Cowboys from Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colo. He earned four letter awards in swimming at Chatfield in the butterfly and backstroke. He earned All-Conference and All-State all four years of high schools and was named team captain his junior and senior seasons. He set the school record in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke his senior season. He was also a four-time honor roll honoree at Chatfield.

Personal: Layman was born on Dec. 1, 1993, in Spokane, Wash. He is the son of Jay and Karen. He has one older sister, Sarah. He is majoring in petroleum engineering at UW.
