2012-13: Luke Martinez started Wyoming's first 12 games of 2012-13 before suffering a fractured bone in his right hand during an off-campus incident on Dec. 31. He was suspended and missed the rest of the season. At the time of his suspension, Martinez was leading Wyoming by averaging team highs of 14.5 points, 2.0 steals and 42 percent beyond the arc. He also added 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Martinez scored in double figures 10 times during the season, including a career-high 25 points against Denver on Dec. 18 for his third game above the 20-point mark in 2012-13. He also notched a school-record nine steals at Illinois State on Dec. 4, topping the previous mark of seven by three different Pokes. With 116 career three-point makes and 325 attempts, he finished 10th on Wyoming's all-time top 10 list for those two categories. Martinez had his streak of 36 games with at least one three-pointer snapped against Colorado on Dec. 1. It was the longest streak in the MW at the time. He hit four or more threes in four games during the season. He was named to the Global Sports Hoops Showcase All-Tournament Team after making a career-high seven threes against South Dakota on Nov. 15. He finished his career with 32 games in double-figures points, including six above 20.
2011-12: Martinez started 31 games for Wyoming in 2011-12 and established himself as one of the top three-point shooters in the Mountain West. He averaged 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 30 minutes of action per game. His 11.8 points were third on the team, while his 4.0 rebounds and 33.5 percent beyond the arc were second. Martinez ranked first in the conference and 58th nationally at 2.53 threes per game. He hit one three-pointer in the last 29 games of the season and made 81 threes on the season. His 81 treys during 2011-12 and 242 attempts ranked second in UW single-season history. He also ranked fourth in the league and led the Pokes with 1.7 steals per game while collecting 54 during the season for seventh on UW's single-season chart. Martinez's top performance of the season was 23 points on 6-of-6 from the field and 5-of-5 from deep against Idaho State on Jan. 9. He reached double figures in points in a team-high 22 games, including three games with more than 20, and also reached double-figure rebounds once with 10 against North Dakota State on March 14. Martinez was named the MVP of the Jim Thorpe Classic on Thanksgiving weekend after posting three double-digit scoring games, including setting his career high twice. He shot 61 percent (13-of-21) from deep during the event.
2010-11: Martinez broke his left elbow in practice on Oct. 28 and underwent surgery on Nov. 3. He missed the entire season and used a redshirt year. He was able to join the team for practice later in the season.
Before Wyoming: Martinez's junior college career was highlighted by earning Second Team All-America honors for NJCAA Division I following his sophomore season of 2009-10.
Following both his freshman and sophomore seasons at Williston State, Martinez was a First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection. He was his region's Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and helped lead Williston State to a 25-7 record during 2009-10.
Martinez was one of the top junior college scorers in the nation in 2009-10 and ranked 25th nationally with 19.7 points per game. He made 99 three pointers, while shooting 39 percent from three-point range. He averaged 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.5 steals. He also shot 54 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free-throw line. Martinez went to Bismarck High School and played for coach Steve Miller.
Personal: Martinez was born on August 24, 1990 in Rugby, N.D. He is the son of Linda and Louis and has three siblings--Jory, Alita and Elaine. Martinez is majoring in social science at UW.
