Biography

2022-23: Wenzel appeared in 24 games with 21 starts on the season. He averaged 7.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds. He shot 41 percent from behind the arc and 37 percent from the field. He hit 43 three pointers on the season and hit four or more threes in a game five times. He recorded double-figures in scoring nine times on the season. He scored a career-high 20 points twice once in the season opener against Colorado Christian and against Louisiana Tech. He hit five three pointers in each game and went 5-of-7 from behind the arc against La Tech. He recorded 14 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against Texas A&M Commerce for his first career double-double. 

2021-22: Wenzel gave the Pokes a strong presence off the bench and in a starting role. He appeared in all 34 games making 14 starts. He averaged 5.2 points per game to go along with 2.9 rebounds. He shot 41 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc with 38 makes. He scored in double-figures six times. He recorded a career best 15 points against San Jose State making a career-high five field goals. He hit a career-high four triples against New Mexico. He recorded a career-best seven rebounds three times against Fresno State, at Boise State and at UNLV. He recorded a career-best four assists at Nevada in his first career start.

2020-21: He joined the Cowboys halfway through the semester and had to sit due to NCAA transfer rules.

Before UW: Wenzel appeared in two games for the Utes this season playing 5.5 minutes per game adding three rebounds and one assist. He redshirted during the 2019-20 season.

High School: A native of San Antonio, Texas, Wenzel is a 6-7, 212-pound guard. Coming out of high school he was a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 18 recruit in the state of Texas according to Rivals.com. As a senior at O'Connor High School, Wenzel averaged 24.1 points per game to go along with five rebounds and 1.7 assists. He shot 41 percent behind the arc and 87 percent from the free throw line.

He was named Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Class 6A All-State First Team and was named to the San Antonio Express News Super Team. He helped lead his team to a 24-10 record and a trip to the Texas State Playoffs. He averaged 25 points per game in the post season.
