2016-17: Herndon appeared in and started all 38 games for the Cowboys. He was fourth on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game. He was second on the Pokes grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game, while leading the team and ranking third in the MW in blocks at 74 on the season ranking sixth in single-season school history. He also added 1.3 assists per game. He shot 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the three point line ranking second on the team with 58 three pointers. He scored in double-figures in 26 games and recorded three double-doubles on the year. He tied a career-high with 17 points three times. He hit a career-high four three pointers against Fresno State on Feb. 8. He tied a career-high with 12 rebounds against Colorado State on Valentine’s Day. He recorded a career-high five blocks in the opening game of the CBI finals against Coastal Carolina. His double-doubles came against Utah State, at San Diego State and Colorado State.
2015-16: Alan Herndon was Wyoming's top big during the 2015-16 season, as he played in all 31 games and made 30 starts. He averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.8 blocks in 28.5 minutes per game, while shooting 52 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc. Herndon's 7.8 points were third on the team and his 4.8 rebounds were second. His top showing was a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds in a career-high 38 minutes against Utah State on March 9 for his first career double-double. He tallied 11 double-figure scoring games during the season and two double-figure rebounding games, including a career-high 12 boards against Montana State on Nov. 28. He also knocked home a career-high three triples at Nevada on Jan. 2 and a career-high five assists against Nevada on Jan. 20.
2014-15: Herndon served as Wyoming's first big man off the bench in 2014-15. He played in 31 games and made two starts despite being slowed by mononucleosis in mid-February. He averaged 3.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 15.4 minutes per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field. His top performance was 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal in his first career start on Feb. 14 against San Jose State. He also reached double figures with 10 points against Utah State on March 4. Herndon grabbed a career-high six rebounds twice. He played more than 20 minutes in nine games during the season, including a career-high 32 minutes at Colorado State on Jan. 7. He was a valuable reserve that helped lead Wyoming to a Mountain West tournament title and its first NCAA tournament since 2001-02.
2013-14: Herndon redshirted his first season in the Wyoming program, but helped the Cowboys by serving on the scout team.
Before Wyoming: A 6'9", 200-pound forward, Herndon was the fifth Colorado native that UW head coach Larry Shyatt had signed since returning to the Cowboys in March of 2011. Herndon played his prep career under coach Brent Garretson at Widefield High School in Colorado Springs, Colo.
As a senior in 2012-13, Herndon averaged team highs of 13.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks, while adding 1.5 steals and 1.2 assists per game. He shot 50 percent from the field with a team-high 130 made baskets, as Widefield went 18-7 on the season to advance to the second round of the Class 4A state tournament. Herndon scored in double figures in 16 games, including eight double-doubles. He posted a season-high 27 points against Harrison on Jan. 31 to go with 11 rebounds, as he earned Honorable Mention All-State from the Denver Post.
During his junior campaign, Herndon averaged 9.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, as the Gladiators went 11-14. He notched three double-doubles, including a season-high 14 points and 11 rebounds against Harrison and added 11 points and 12 rebounds against Falcon. In a game against Cheyenne Mountain, he had 14 blocked shots. Herndon earned Honorable Mention All-Metro honors from the Colorado Springs Gazette and was Honorable Mention Academic All-State. As a sophomore, Herndon averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Personal: The son of Michael and Chenell Herndon. Herndon's father Mike was a standout for VMI from 1982-85. He is still fourth in school history with 103 blocks and ninth in field goal percentage at 51.6 percent. Alan has one sister, Kim. Alan is majoring in psychology at Wyoming. He was also recruited by Colorado, Denver and Air Force.
