2022-23: Powell appeared in 28 games in his first season with the Cowboys. He averaged 1.9 points per game and 2.0 rebounds. He shot 46 percent from the field going 18-of-39. He scored a career-high eight points at Boise State going 4-of-6 from the field. He grabbed a career-best five rebounds in the game as well and also grabbed five in a contest against New Mexico in the Mountain West Tournament. 

High School: Powell, a 6-10, 210-pound center was rated as a three-star recruit by both 247sports.com and Rivals.com. He was listed as the 39^th best center nationally by 247sports.com. Powell was also named the 24th best recruit in the State of Texas by 247sports.com. He was the 25^th recruit in Texas by TB5 Report. He was an All-Region honoree as a senior and earned 11-6A Defensive MVP. Powell was also a McDonald’s All American Nominee.  He earned First Team All-Super Centex honors as a junior.  Powell also garnered 11-6A All-District honors. As a junior, he averaged 12.8 points per game to go along with 9.4 rebounds per night.
 
He also received scholarship offers from Hofstra, Drexel, North Texas, Princeton, and UNC Wilmington. He also received interest from Texas A&M.
