2012: Smith finished the season with 174 straight pass attempts without an interception, the second-best mark in Mountain West history and just four shy of the all-time MW record held by former Wyoming QB Casey Bramlet. Against New Mexico, Smith threw for 412 yards and three scores, career highs. He finished second in the Mountain West and 16th in the nation in total offense per game (308.5 yards), 11th in passing efficiency (157.70) and 21st in passing yards per game with 284 per game. Of the top 50 quarterbacks in the nation, only three boasted a higher yards per completion mark than Smith, who averaged 13.84 yards per completion. He led all UW rushers with six TDs on the ground. He started 10 games, missing two due to injury. He completed 62 percent of his passes (205-330). He threw 27 TD passes, with just six interceptions. Smith averaged 284 yards per game through the air, and tallied nearly 309 yards per game in total offense to lead all Cowboys. He was a three-time CollegeSportsMadness.com MW Player of the Week honoree, and a one-time honoree for the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas MW Player of the Week. He was the conference offensive player of the week three times and earned Honorable Mention All-MW honors. Though just a sophomore, Smith was one of four Cowboys to be selected a team captain for the 2012 season. 

2011: Smith was a revelation for Cowboy football in 2011. His prolific performances earned him a First Team Freshman All-American honor from CollegeFootballNews.com and Second Team Freshman All-America status from Yahoo! Sports. Named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, he graduated early from high school in December 2010, so that he could enroll at UW in January 2011 and participate in the Cowboys' spring drills. Entering the fall, no one could have predicted the impact the freshman would have on the Cowboy squad. He averaged 256.3 yards of total offense per game. That ranked him No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 33 overall in the NCAA. Smith also ranked fourth in the MW and 61st in the nation in passing yards (201.7 per game). He ranked fourth in the conference in passing efficiency, with a 124.6 passer rating. Along the way, he set a new Mountain West Conference freshman record for total offense (3,332 yards), breaking the previous record of 2,691 yards set by TCU's Andy Dalton back in 2007. Smith ranks third on Wyoming's single-season total offense chart. He also ranks No. 3 on the Mountain West career passing list for a freshman, with 2,622 passing yards. Twice during the season, Smith was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for his performances versus San Diego State and New Mexico. His best single-game performance was a 365-yard effort at San Diego State in a key 30-27 road victory that also won Smith the Manning Award National Player of the Week honor. He recorded five 300-yard total offense games his freshman season. He earned the Coach Paul Roach Team MVP and Offensive Back of the Year honors at the team's year-end banquet, along with a letter. 

High School: Smith was named First Team All-State Class 6A by The Oregonian at the conclusion of his senior season at West Salem High School. Class 6A is the largest classification in the state of Oregon. He was also named the 2010 Gatorade Oregon Football Player of the Year. Smith was ranked as the No. 8 best recruit in the state of Oregon at all positions by SuperPrep magazine and Scout.com. His senior season, he completed 135 of 200 passes (67.5 percent) for 2,146 yards, 26 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also rushed for 855 yards on 114 carries and scored 22 rushing TDs. His junior season, Smith completed 91 of 146 passes (62.3 percent) for 1,555 yards, 16 TDs and only two interceptions, while rushing for 756 yards on 95 carries and scoring 12 rushing touchdowns. He also started as a sophomore, throwing for 1,260 yards, eight TDs and eight interceptions, while completing 85 of 150 passes (56.7 percent). Smith rushed the ball 93 times for 703 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore. As a freshman, he completed 8 of 13 passes for 103 yards, threw two TD passes and had four rushing attempts for 10 yards. His career numbers include: 319 of 509 passes (62.8 percent) for 5,064 yards, 52 TDs, 15 interceptions, 306 rushing attempts for 2,324 yards and 44 rushing touchdowns. Among the school records he set include: career passing yards, career rushing yards, career scoring, career touchdown passes and career rushing TDs. He played for head coach Shawn Stanley. 

Personal: Born June 8, 1992, he is the son of Kimi and Kevin Smith and has one older brother, Kyle, a younger brother, Cade, and a younger sister, Ellie. His dad played football at the University of Oregon. Smith was also recruited by New Mexico State, Oregon State and San Jose State. He is pursuing a degree in communications at UW.
