Cross Country Opens Season Hosting Wyoming Invite in Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Sept. 3, 2026) – Wyoming cross country will make the drive down I-80 to host the Wyoming Invite in Cheyenne, Wyo., Friday evening. Collegiate races will begin at 6 p.m. with the women's 5k followed by the men's 5k at 6:30 p.m.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will race against four other teams, including a nationally ranked program on the men's and women's side. The field will include men's No. 6 and women's No. 18 Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Central Wyoming College.

Pokes will begin their 10th season under Head Coach Scott Dahlberg in a new-look Mountain West. With several departing members, Wyoming will now face some new faces such as Hawai'i, Cal Davis and UTEP. In the preseason coaches poll, the Cowboys and Cowgirls were picked to finish third, both behind New Mexico and Air Force.
 
The meet is free to the public and will kick off with high school varsity and junior varsity races at 4:15 p.m. for the girls and 5 p.m. for the boys.
